Aesthetic Medical Spa located in Scottsdale, AZ

Plasma-rich fibrin or PRF treatments are the evolution of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments. PRF injection or infusion gives you fibrin, a kind of natural scaffold that works with your platelets to heal faster and more effectively. It’s an amazing all-natural method of reversing the aging process, kind of like using dermal fillers that you make in your own body. PRF Treatments Q & A

What is PRF?

PRF is an extract of your own blood that can help you renew your skin, the natural way. Dolce Aesthetics medspa uses PRF in a few different ways, including:

  • Injection in face
  • Injection plus dermal fillers
  • After microneedling
  • Injection in scalp

PRF is a powerful concentrate that includes a large number of healing platelets to help your body regenerate skin and hair.

How is PRF different from PRP?

The extraction process (a simple blood draw from your arm) is similar to the PRP process. But, after that, everything is quite different.

To get PRP, blood is circulated at a super high speed. PRF collection requires a very specific lower spin rate, which allows for almost 100% platelet recovery. This gives you more healing platelets overall (up to 10 times as many as PRP). PRF also contains leukocytes (white blood cells) and mesenchymal stem cells, both of which you don’t get with PRP.

The other main difference between PRF and PRP is that PRF has zero anticoagulant or additives in the collection tube. This means that PRF contains fibrin, which is rich in white blood cells that create a scaffold after injection. Thanks to this fibrin scaffold, your PRF releases growth factors for far longer than you’d get with PRP.

How do you use PRF in skin rejuvenation?

PRF has several uses in skin rejuvenation. It’s often called a natural filler, which means it can boost your body’s own collagen and elastin production to improve facial volume and skin tightness. For enhanced results, you can combine PRF with dermal fillers.

After microneedling, you have tiny skin punctures that create an ideal environment for PRF absorption at the optimal depth in your skin. PRF can speed up your skin renewal by helping you make collagen and elastin faster. PRF is also very effective at healing damaged skin, such as acne scars.

If your hair is thinning, PRF is an excellent natural option. It’s more powerful than PRP because you have more growth factors stimulating new hair growth, and they last for much longer.
